Challenge

Every year, Scharffen Berger has a Chocolate Adventure Contest to promote their premier cocoa and dessert products. JPL was charged with creating a website and social media promotion to inspire consumers to buy Scharffen Berger products, bake their dream cupcake and enter the contest. In 2010 the theme was cupcakes, including a contest to bake a unique cupcake using Scharffen Berger products and a variety of other ingredients. Participants could print out their recipe when their creation was done.

Solution

JPL responded to the challenge with the Create Your Own Cupcake application. Thousands of people created cupcakes online, step by step. They quickly saw how easy it was to enter the offline contest. And JPL made it simple for consumers to show off their creations on social media sites for bragging rights. Scharffen Berger was flooded with entries, and loyal new customers for their products.
