3-Minute Interview with Luke Kempski, President, JPL
Q: Describe the culture at your company.
A: Collaborative and creative. We involve our clients, and we work closely with one another to achieve the best creative work and results. It’s a fun and caring environment that recognizes the value of each team member and celebrates individual and collective achievement. Team members speak up in our culture, motivating us to constantly improve our work and workplace.
Q: What one quality do you like to see above all others when you hire?
A: Passion for what they do and a hunger to keep learning and improving.
Q: Tell us one thing that has evolved about your leadership style.
A: I’ve learned to restrain my opinions when team members have ideas and want to do something differently. If they own “their way,” it gets better results than trying to get them to do it “my way.”
Q: What is your company’s biggest challenge?
A: JPL thrives by being at the center of dramatic changes in technology, communications and marketing. We must constantly evolve so that we’re becoming a more valuable partner to our clients as they evolve in a highly competitive global marketplace.
Q: What is your favorite thing about your workplace, or what would you change if you could?
A: I love seeing JPL team members excited about their work, new things they are doing and what they are accomplishing to help our clients. (Kempski added an extra question.)
Q: What is the most fun part of your job?
A: When clients tell me how great it has been to work with us and how much they appreciate the work we’re doing and the positive impact we’re having.
