To educate the public about the importance of genomic science, the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) has contracted with d’Vinci Interactive and its parent company, JPL, to create a companion educational website to promote and supplement the upcoming “Genome: Unlocking Life’s Code” exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. JPL will provide technical consulting, web development support, 3-D animation, Google Analytics and Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
The multimedia-rich, interactive educational website will give educators, students and the general public a deeper understanding of this fascinating subject before and after their trip. In addition, the website will provide an educational experience for those unable to visit the Smithsonian in person. Initial plans for the website include an interactive timeline, a virtual tour, classroom materials and exclusive video content, among many other features. The Unlockinglifescode.org interim site is live and the final site will launch in June.
The National Museum of Natural History exhibit will focus on the human genome and look at human identity in the context of the natural world. The 2,500 square-foot exhibition is the product of a partnership between the Museum and NHGRI, under the National Institutes of Health. The exhibition and website will celebrate the 10th anniversary of sequencing of the human genome and the 60th anniversary of Watson and Crick’s discovery of the double helix structure of DNA. After a year at the Museum, the exhibit will travel around the country, extending its reach to an even broader audience. The website will remain functional and up-to-date after the exhibit closes.
The Unlocking Life’s Code website will be developed on the Drupal content management platform and will go live when the exhibit opens in June.
